i often have trouble choosing between little variations like these, and there's something i like about all of them. i'm tempted to just print this in a 3 different ways and let the public choose. feel free to weigh in and help me out if you want!

I think the bottom piece works the best compositionally. The crescent is more visible than the grayscale variation, while the white "smoke/mist" in the lower left corner helps balance the white throughout the piece. This also helps the blue to become balanced as well. Either that or the black and white piece, which also works, but which the crescent is less visible, although that is not neccessarily a bad thing depending on what you want the eye to focus more on, which is quite obvious the face. I think the middle piece, although it is great, doesn't work as well, in my opinion, as the other two.
Oh, I forgot, the crescent, in the bottom piece, also helps move the eye throughout the piece. so, there.....
i dig the 3rd variation. seems the most dynamic.
thanks both of you! i think i agree with you guys, but it's always hard for me to commit to a subtle decision like this one. there's something i like about all of these, but i'm willing to declare number 3 the winner.
william, i really appreciate the critique!
